Need Logic Assistance in SharePoint

Two lists parent and child

parent has field original budget & total budget

child has field budget increase

when a child record gets added it marked awaiting approval, when the approver marks the ticket approved it needs to update the parent record adding budget increase to parent total budget.

need some thoughts on how to get this to work.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi

Sounds like you need to create a workflow that will run when an item in the child list is modified.  Have you created workflows before?  Do you have SharePoint Designer?  Which version of SharePoint are you using?  What field does the parent and child list have in common?

yes I have SD2007 and have done workflows

ID in parent = BPID in child
