Hitachi 7K500 500 internal hard drive mobile
I bought an OEM hitachi 7K500 500G internal Hard drive for my Dell Vostros Laptop. When I swap out my old Dell hard drive for the Hitachi, my laptop does not see this Hitachi drive. Does anyone else have this problem. I have tried to look for the device driver for this hard drive but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the web. Can anyone show me a work around? thanks.
When you say it doesn't see the new hard drive ... does BIOS not see it, or is it just Windows that doesn't see it?
If it is just Windows, then you need the SATA controller (usually the chipset) driver, as there are no hard drive drivers.

The bios does not reconize it either, so does it means that the disk is broken? It is the Dell Vostros 3500. It is a SATA, the old hard drive was 320 and I am swapping it out for a 500G.

Let me test that out on another PC to see if it works.

I tes it out on another computer and it is indeed broken. Returning it back to hitachi. It is a pain in the butt, hitachi return policy.
