No Access to C: Partition But Can Access D

I've got a 250gb Hitachi SATA drive that was causing Stop Error 0x00008086 when Vista tried to start. I installed the drive in another computer and not only would it not install but it stopped any of the existing hard drives from being recognised.

I have since put it back in the original computer and booted the machine using UBCD4WIN. However, I can't access the drive in My Computer. Using chkdsk I can access the D partition fine but the C partition is inaccessible using any other of the tools on the UBCD4WIN disk.

It must surely be a software issue rather than a physically damaged drive but I can't find anyway of getting to the data on the C partition, which is where all the data is stored. The D partition has only a recovery folder and a 100gb of empty space..

A good solution to recover your files is to try the Ontrack software :
Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional

you can try it here : http://www.krollontrack.com/resource-library/free-downloads/

Put your hard disk on an external usb adapter for example or in another PC as slave disk.

I should have mentioned that I have already tried Ontrack and it can't even see the disk. I have now used Knoppix and while that can see both partions it is reporting that the disk has some bad sectors

I've also just been told that the laptop this disk came from suffered a liquid spill about  a month ago and while the keyboard had to be changed it has worked well until yesterday. That doesn't sound good...

And now I've just realised that what I thought was just the BIOS password is in fact the HDD password that Toshiba uses. I know what this password is but would this be what is stopping me from accessing the drive with Knoppix or when the drive is in another computer.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a way of removing the HDD password in the BIOS. It just says registered. I can delete the password but saving and exiting doesn't make any difference..

Right, I've managed to remove the HDD password and managed to recover a bit of data from it using Easeus. Now, I've got the problem of having a laptop without a working version of Vista Business and a sticker that is so worn that I can't see what it is.

Does anybody know of a way to get this laptop working with a genuine copy of Vista or am I going to have to get the customer to stump up for another copy??

Question closed. I will open another one up to work out why I can't install Vista...
