5 users on a workgroup (light usage of excels docs etc) is a gigabit switch a must have?

Im not always present, but there are 5 users on a workgroup.
Is a gigabit swich necessary - presently there is a 10/100.

No it isnt for small files. But if you plan to add a NAS then Yes. Most of the NAS are in gigabit and if you use a 100MB network it will work badly. Slow transfer... (my experience).
