.NET App Problems / IIS7

Last Modified: 2012-06-27
Scenario:

.NET applications running on IIS7
Unique application pool used for each application
Each application pool has its own unique user name and password
Authentication set as pass-through from application pool

1. On all applications we now get "invalid application path" when clicking on Test Settings.

2. When browsing a new application we get 401 - unauthorized access denied due to invalid credentials. We know the credentials are set correctly in the application pool, in the application in IIS itself (proper app pool used, etc.), and permissions on files/folder are set correctly using the application pool account identity. This does have a backend SQL Server database but we know the app pool user also has dbo access to database; however, this is a set of "stub" code set by the developer. Could developer be using incorrect credentials in the web.config for database access and this is what is causing unauthorized????
