How can I bring my Virtualbox instance into my new Ubuntu 10.10 install?

I've recently installed Ubuntu 10.10.  I would like to bring my VirtualBox instance into this new installation.  I've copied the .Virtualbox file into my home directory but don't know what to do now.  Thanks in advance.

Did you install virtualbox on your Ubuntu? If not, then installing VirtualBox OSE (Open Source Edition).
Search for virtualbox-ose package in synaptic, aptitude or whichever package manager you use.

I did not.  Should I install it then merge the old folder into the new?
