I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi, I want to change password of a user who is not SA. I right click that user's properties and in that popup window there is no password.  I think that url is for reg sql 2005.  I have the express version.  Please see the attached screenshot.  Thanks.

To change the SQL Server Username password, just connect to the database with Query Analyzer using the SQL Server Username that is being updated and the current password. Then run "sp_password" to change the password.

sp_password [ [ @old = ] 'old_password' , ]
{ [ @new =] 'new_password' }
[ , [ @loginame = ] 'login' ]

The Office Microsoft Documentation for sp_password

Here is a simple example that changes the current password from
"currentPSWD" to "newPSWD";

sp_password 'currentPSWD', 'newPSWD'
