How to check which wire from the switch goes to which port

Hi Experts,
We have a lot of lan wire connected from the servers to the switch, and the lan connections are then sent to the indiviual workstations.

I want to find out which wire goes where is there any way to find out as i dont have the network diagram

One way is to follow all the cables, but I guess you figured that out you're self ;)

Is it a manageble switch? (please provide vendor & type). You can have a look at the switch arp table. If you know you're computers MAC adresses (see you're DHCP scope) you can match them.

plug off the cable from the computer and watch the switch for the led that turns off.

have all work stations ping your gateway address continuously, as you unplug a cable the workstation in question will fail to ping the gateway, then you'll know where that cable is going.

if your gateway is 192.168.1.1 for example (and you're using windows)
the command from the workstations would be:

ping 192.168.1.1 -t
