Exchange 2010 Dumpster size

hi
how to delete or clean the dumpster for a mailbox in exchange 2010. we have few of the mailboxes whose dumpster sizes are more than 20 GB.

i tried using the following command, but still the dumpster size shows more than 20 GB.

Search-mailbox -identity <alias> -SearchDumpsterOnly -DeleteContent

hi

it seems the issue has been solved after running the following commands

1) Set-Mailbox -Identity <user-identitiy> -CalendarVersionStoreDisabled:$true
2) Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -Identity <user-identitiy>
1 will prevent further escalation of the problem and 2 will clean up space.

i found the solution from the following website.

thanks for the response,

i did some more research and found that, when we delete calendar items, it is placed in the recoverdeleteditems root folder as well as on the deletions subfolder. now the search-mailbox command only cleans the deletions subfolder. please help me on how to clean the root folder. as per the MS articles it states the calendar items will expire only after 120 days from dumpster.

I really doubt  calendars are taking 20 GB !

which part is big the recoverdeleteditems   ? did you try to restart your infromation store after the command ? maybe only the view is not correct !

is the command finishing without errors ?

i tried restarting server, but still the size shows the same. i exported the mailbox to pst, i can see about 1.5 Lakh of repeated calendar items. i am not sure why same calendar item is showing multiple times. i need a way to delete these items from mailbox.

the way to delete the recoverdeleteditems    is Search-mailbox -identity <alias> -SearchDumpsterOnly -DeleteContent

another thing i would try is to go to the mailbox database and set the retention period to 0 days

Hi

as per the MS articles the default calendar items expiration is 120 days from the dumpster. is there any way to manually clear the calendar items from the dumpster.
