Creating custom application.master page

Hi,

we have got out custom masterpage for sharepoint site pages. But now for branding we want to change application.master for application pages.

What We have done:

Created Httpmodule and added a custom.master in masterpage galary. This custom.master is a copy of original application.master except the a small tag saying "Hello world" at top to confirm that our code is working.

Now we are not able to make changes in custom.master. If we change anything, it stops working. By luck we were able to add footer as it does not use any content placeholder. If we change any info in content place holder or even change the postion of content place holder it is not working.

Any idea how to proceed?

sure,
ideally never delete anything which is already there in master page like contetnt place holder etc. it create problems.

Also if everything goes off,
navigate to url till site collection name/_layouts/settings.aspx
then go to master page gallary & change the master page any of the standard one.
also doon't forget to check in & approve the master page with same login from which u did changes.

need to spend some time on this:
