I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I looked at the links and really they are convolutated.
I really need an answer from someone that has done this and the few simple steps I am missing
I am using WDS not Windows Image.
So I am simply using the standard disk and using that to push out the instalation.
I have too many different computers to make an image

Problems using Powershell and Active Directory?

Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.  If you are spending more time trying instead of doing, then it's time to look at something else. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why

You use SIM to create the answer file which you then import into WDS.

This link (section 3) gives you the basic settings you need to configure to allow the answer file to work

It is one of the first topics. WSIM is part of WAIK. So, when you install WAIK, you get WSIM.

No I must be wording the questin wrong..
I am not not not using WSIM or WAIK I am using WDS.
So for WDS how do I create an anwer file.
Ican not create an image as I have 4 different kinds of computers on site and that is too may images for the server to handle. So the alaternative is to use WDS with a fresh Image. Doing that I need to make an answer file. I am not able to download any other imaging software as it took me weeks to get the WDS to work propperly and I can not go an mess it up with other software

WDS is simply the deployment method used to get the software/image to the machine.

WSIM is part of the WAIK. You need WSIM to create the answer file. You do not need to use any other functionality but WSIM is part of WAIK (unlike the windows XP/2003 version which was standalone).

You can install WAIK on any machine, it does not have to be the WDS server

No I am not able to download those products as they may break my fragile WDS server
so I do not know what else to do since there is no way according to you to make an answer file

James HaywoodCommented:
The installation of WAIK will not affect your WDS server, it installs as an application. WDS is pretty robust so if yours is not then I suggest you carry out a rebuild.

Well any server can be fragile it depends on what you do to break them.
so I really have not got an answer and i am not going to risk breaking my WDS/WSUS server.
I was hoping that WDS like RIS had the ability to create an answer file.

I understand you do not want to carry out the actions suggested. However, your question was how to create an answer file for use with WDS. Your question was answered and the software to be used explained so I think you should still assign points to the relevant experts.

Well I was unable to complete the task because I called microsoft and they told me using WDS how to create an answer file. We were able to do so with out loading WIAK or anything else simply using the WDS and windows 7. If I did not have to call microsoft to get an answer and use one of my support cases then points may have been awarded. But I called microsoft and they looked at the answers here and agreed that none of them fit what I needed.
