Can I restore mailboxes from a recovery storage group to a new storage group and mailbox database?

We have 2 Exchange 2007 mailbox servers, the first one had issues and is currently doing an eseutil repair. I have created another storage group and mailbox database. I have restored an NTBackup to the recovery storage group that I linked to the new (empty) storage group I created. When I go and try to copy/merge it errors out saying the mailbox doesn't exit.

My end goal is to basically "move" the mailbox for existing users from server 1 to server 2 in a new storage group and mailbox database.

Do you have any ideas on the best way to move users to a new server/storage group/mailbox database. when the source is unable to be mounted at the moment?

You could use exmerge to generate PST files from the RSG and then import them into the new store...but you'll probably lose your single-instance-storage by doing that.

Else you can mount the dial tone recovery database, Till the time your user will be able to login send and receive new mails, Once your rapaire process will complete then you can merge new database into old database.

We ended up creating PSTs from the users Outlook that were affected. We then created a new storage group and mailbox database. We removed their Exchange attributes (disable) and created a new mailbox and associated it to their AD account. We reconnected their Outlook and imported the PST. We just had too many problems trying the storage recovery groups and mounting the EDB from the NTBackup restore.
