an organization name is just a name you pick for your exchange "organization" i

you can think of an exchange organizaiton like an AD forest (simple analogy)

the name of the org is just a name, it can be anything starting exchange 2007 it is not visible at all just in adsiedit so you can really pick any name

for consistancy go for xyz

also in the installation it asks me to provide CAS external domain name.

what should i use here? can i use abc.xyz.com or xyz.com or mail.xyz.com.

as my domain name is abc.xyz.com, where does my abc.xyz.com come in,every where i have been using only xyz.com. or is it only for the purpose of AD

i am very new to exchange pls help.

your cas external name is basically the URL you will use to access owa

if your domain name is abc.xyz.com it would probably be something like mail.abc.xyz.com or owa.abc.xyz.com

your email address is is @abc.xyz.com or @xyz.com ?

CAS external name should be whatever name you bought for your SSL certificate like mail.xyz.com as long as you can update the external xyz.com DNS zone and it isn't owned by another company

i have setup my active directory name as abc.xyz.com. so my mail id would be xxx@abc.xyz.com i guess. if not pls correct me.

and shall i use mail.abc.xyz.com as my external domain, and we havent bought any ssl cert as yet.

is it going to create any problem?

not necessarily your ad domain could be abc.xyz.com and your external domain something totally different

Do you own xyz.com ? did you buy it ?

no our company does not own xyz.com, i am just taking an example instead of using real company name as posting original name might create me some policy problems.

we have a domain for example xyz.com and my company has created a subdomain and ex:abc.xyz.com and asked me to create an exchange environment from scratch as testlab. so i habe been using abc.xyz.comfor ADcreation etc

once i have set up the exchange org we might purchase ssl also.
