Purchasing a Router
I have internet connection with DHCP enabled. I have newly bought a laptop and I even wanted to access the internet from the laptop. I am in a plan to purchase a router which supports both wired & wireless. I think Netgear, D-Link, LinkSys could be the best choice for routers. Anybody could recommend me the best of these or any other?. I don't want to miss any of the advanced feature of any router(for eg: dyndns, firewall...).
Thanks!
Thanks!

I've always been partial to a buffalo hp (high power) model. The new ones come with ddwrt preinstalled.

Thanks!. I'm from India so the currency rate would be, 1$=45Rs. I'll try any India online seller instead newegg.com. But I could not see ddwrt featured routers in netgear(of upto 3000/-).
I knew that there was one netgear with DDWRT but I can't find it but I know linksys and buffalo have them, but I don't know if one with DDWRT will be in your area or not. I don't know how the situation is over there with the assortment of routers they have. I know not all places have all the products from a certain company.

I dont agree I have had problems with most cheap routers
I would look for a router that has the functions you need like 802.11n for instance
I use a draytek 2820
see
http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor2820.html
as I use sip for voice over the internet and sip has to be suppoted in the router firewall also going for a router thats not used by isp's offering free routers as these get hacked pretty quickly so I always try and stay away from the free routers for that very fact

my parents use the wgr614 and it's ben abused like mad and it still works great!
There are a number of Netgear routers that can use dd-wrt. Search for Netgear at:
http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
for the list.

@IanTh: Thanks! good router. Unfortunately it's not sold by all the dealers in india and even if it is sold it costs much. But it's really good router as you said.
@scmaruthi: Thank you very much!. Probably I choose that type router around upto 3500/-

@remixedcat: Great information!. I'll stick with this specifications and thank for sharing your knowledge throughout. Thanks a lot once again!
@DIIRE: Good recommendation. Purchasing MIMO featured router is a bit constlier but really worthwhile. Thank you!
@CompProbSolv: I didn't know ASUS router will have more features with less cost. I may not buy this at this time but wanted to have this as well. Thank you very much!

Not a problem ! ;-)
it's funny because my gramma stepped on my mum's netgear router and it still works! Ha ha! That tells you how good they are.

Really funny incident and it doesn't even look delicate(as sony ericsson mobile). Generally in our country Nokia is used by many saying it can withstand and works having fallen from stairs. Like this, netgear in router, I think.
yes it is. my sister's nokia was abused a lot. LOL. but it's been good helping you and if you need further assistance after purchase feel free to open another question. I'll gladly assit ;-)

2 1 netgear routers dhcp system broke so nothing would get an ip address from the router
so have 3 broken netgear routers in my old it kit pile

By this what I understood is every router will have defects and broke one day depending upon the cost, specifications, manufacturer. At my place I'm sure I'll not get draytek routers and today I hardly got the new Netgear jwnr2000 n300 router at 2500/-. I didn't get constlier routers in netgear and everyone was asking me to take either D-Link or Belkin. Actually I wanted to take the constlier one of upto 3500/- and the router I have has only normal functions which I have seen in most of the routers. Somehow configured it and working using it.
Yeah, I'm from India and I know what you mean. Tech takes time to popularize here. It's nearly impossible to buy a particular model of something you want, which is why I've started preferring on-line shopping (ebay, amazon) to actually searching for it in stores. Croma looks promising though.
we got newegg, tigerdirect and micocenter here for tech shopping. I even got a microcenter that's 2 hours away.
