I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

As is stated, encryption that can be breached by an IT engineer is not good enough to be described as "encryption".

Just a remark for the future:

Why didn't you save those files to some backup media in time? You could now easily access your files from the backup media. USB Stick, USB drive, online in the cloud you name it!

Just a heads up: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

Acronis True Image Home 2011 assures that all your important data, including photos, videos, music, documents and applications, are fully protected and can be recovered quickly in the event of any disaster.

And this is just one of countless others, but a good choice.
