HP LaserJet 4100 Series

HP LaserJet 4100 Series

I have HP LaserJet 4100 Series , in device settings it shows Duplex Unit(for 2-Sided Printing) Installed.
But when I print it doesn't print on both sides just on one side.

Any help on how to get it printing on both sides?

There is usually a checkbox to tell it to print two-sided. It is typically either on the initial display page when you start to print a file, or you have to click on properties first and it will be in one of the tabs.
To expand on the reply from flubbster:

There is a hierarchy of settings (not all of which apply, depending on source application).

In priority order (highest-priority first), print job settings (for options such as Simplex/Duplex) may be obtained from:

- Document
- Application
- Printer driver
- Printer (front panel) default
The 7 Worst Nightmares of a Sysadmin

Fear not! To defend your business’ IT systems we’re going to shine a light on the seven most sinister terrors that haunt sysadmins. That way you can be sure there’s nothing in your stack waiting to go bump in the night.

Look at the model/part number on the printer.  Depending on the part number (C80xxA), you have the following options.

4100 printer: C8049A
4100n – network ready printer: C8050A
4100tn – network ready printer, additional tray: C8051A
4100dtn – network-ready duplex printer: C8052A
4100mfp– network-ready duplex, multifunction printer: C9148A

Note that only models C8052A and C9148A have duplex printing capability.

If your printer is one of the other three, then you are just seeing that in the software because the software is generic to cover multiple models.  Essentially, the software will list that capability regardless of the model and whether or not duplex printing is possible with that printer.  If it is not available, then the software option won't do anything.

Hope that explains it fully.

Best of luck.

Print a configuration page from the printer. It will show you all the option installed. You can tell the driver the duplex is installed but if the printer doesn't actually have a duplexer the printer won't print duplex.
You won't get an error on the computer for this situation. It will simply print in simplex.

The driver shows the duplex installed but the printer doesn't print both side even when selected in print preferences.
What specific part number is on the printer?  Just because the driver shows duplex options doesn't mean the printer includes the duplex hardware.  The software is generic - meant to cover a wide variety of models and options.
Print a configuration page from the printer console.

<<Print a configuration page from the printer console. >>

I did butthere is nothing showing about Duplex option
Then the unit does not have a duplexer installed or it is not functioning. You can not print duplex on that printer despite the fact that the driver on the PC has the duplex option enabled.
