NTP issues never ending

The network i am working on is a mixture of Linux and Windows. I have a primary NTP server running off windows 2003, i have set all windows and linux NTP to sync off of this machine.

Now i am mainly having a problem with my linux boxes being out of sync by hours!
I have followed all guidelines for NTP on both Windows and Linux, and all has been ok but gets iffy after a while.

I am hpoing for suggestions.
Can anyone suggest any NTP monitoring apps for the network?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

ntpd will fail is out of sync too much.

I usually do one more in cron job.
as root
# crontab -e
---------
0 * * ** /usr/bin/ntpdate -u <your ntp server> ; /sbin/hwclock -w
----------

Sync the time every hour. Also sync to your hardware clock.

to run above command NTP service should be stopped or you need to include -d option.

ntpdate -d <your ntp server>

One more important info required, your linux and windows boxes are prhysical machines or there are the VMs.

If these are VMs then you need some other workaround, recently I have done the same in my envirinment.

They are all physical machines, currently no VMs. All set to sync with the windows domain controller which works at NTP server and syncs off pool.ntp.org.
