SSIS 2008 Data Flow error catching

Hello,  I am converting dates from YYYYMMDD HH:MM:SS.00 format to a SQL Server datetime field in my SSIS 2008 package.  I have it working correctly, but now I am adding in error catching.  I tried to redirect rows, but it redirect the whole file - instead of just the bad ones.  I created a text file with a mix of good and bad rows, but I cannot get it to process the good ones only.

I gave up and changed the redirects to fail component, the way it was at the begining.  But now, the data flow stops at the date conversion in red - and does not return to the control flow where I have another task to move the bad file to a "Hold" subdirectory.   How do I get the flow to continue after an error inside the data flow?  It just stops and does not finish with the Failure constraint I have. The task never gets executed.

Do the redirection where you're doing the formatting... the formatting error will allow you to catch just the exception errors.

As you can see, I have 2 different error outputs, one on the format and another on a business rule.
