ERROR 1206 (HY000): The total number of locks exceeds the lock table size

Good evening,
Im trying to insert a lot of records into a database, but keep getting the error message:-
ERROR 1206 (HY000): The total number of locks exceeds the lock table size

Im the only one using the database so dont really need locks, and its in design phase at the moment, is there a way to switch off locking in MySQL???

You may fix the issue by adjusting innodb_buffer_pool_size and restart MySQL. By default, this is set to only 8MB, which is too small for anyone who is using InnoDB to do anything OR reduce the amount of rows you're manipulating in one query.

What table can I use which doesnt use record locks?

There are different storage engines in MySQL. You may use MyISAM if you don't need InnoDB features.

You should read about MyISAM and InnoDB first and then decide which way to go. Here is a comparison of both.
