html using an image to run java script on the page instead of a normal button and reset the page

am using the below button to reset the page but need to incorperate and image instead of a button
<input type="reset" class="formbutton" value="{lang mkey='reset'}" />
<input type="image" src="{$image_dir}reset.jpg"  alt="Submit button"> this gives a button but cannot work out the reset syntax into the line

this button runs and runs the java ok but i need to incorperte an image to do the same job into the button or an image that can run javascript
the path is src="{$image_dir}reset.jpg" for the image
