"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It is not the cell number but the cell Address for example if you want to get 1st 2 character of cell A1 then the above formula will be

=LEFT(A1,2)

You need to click the file upload button at the bottom of the below text box.

Also where exactly are you putting the formula and what exact formula are you using?

That is because you have entered the formula twice in the same cell :)

Select the cell and press F2, you will the two formulas, one below the other :)

If you want delete and type it again :)

turbot_yu,

in D6,
=LEFT(C6, 3)
=LEFT(C6,2)

in D7,
=LEFT(C7, 3)
=LEFT(C7,2)

in D8,
=LEFT(C8, 3)
=LEFT(C8,2)

remove the 2ne line in each formula and then check.
