I want to be a CEH,do I have what it takes?

I've been working for I.T. firm for two years.I've learned a lot of hands on.I am A+ certified I.T. technician. My knowledge base is from medium size networks to the basics.I can setup and maintain small business networks with about 40 to 60 users.Do I need more experience? If so what kind? I want to take the CEH exam with in the next two years. I think it will show my firm that I'm committed, and I have a unique skill to bring to the table.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It's my understanding that CEH encompasses more than just networks. I believe you'll need some programming comprehension as well. Exploitation of a system can occur in multiple ways. Brute force attacks against the networks and/or hardware itself are less prevalent than social engineering and software exploits.

So a basic to intermediate knowledge of program would help? Any particular programing languish?

I haven't actually studied for the exam (though I would love to have that cert!), but I would estimate since most OS code is written in C/C++ (compiled language), you would want to have an understanding of one or both of those languages in order to understand or find exploits. Also, PERL (interpreted language) is used a lot because of its power and simplicity. Slightly more advanced (and lower-level), assembly language may be useful as well. Assembly would be dependent on the architecture you are working against, though.
