OSX Update 10.6.7 still at running package scripts after 4 hrs

Did a update of OSX server with 10.6.7, it has been on the screen where it says running package scripts for 4 hours, do I reboot this thing or let it continue, is is possible there is a process it is unable to update.  What is the best way to handle this?

Thanks

Needs to be running by tomorrow

Do you have a Time Machine backup of the machine?

Peterson50Author Commented:
We have a backup of the files, we dont use time machine on the osx server, too time consuming, we have a backup program.  Why do you ask?

md624Commented:
Time Machine reduces the complexity of restoring the machine if you stop the update and experience problems. You can stop the update and restart as long as you are prepared to restore if necessary.

After rebooting the machine, check updates again. If the 10.6.7 update is not available, you can remove the InstallHistory.plist file from /Library/Receipts. Reboot and check again. This should allow the update to be downloaded and reinstalled.

When you reload it, try downloading the combo update from the website and installing it that way.  ALso, repair disk permissions before and after the update.

I had to hard reboot the server and it came up with one problem, all the services started properly except for nat which means the computers are not able to access the internet.  If I click on start nat, it trys and then just returns to start nat.  I called Apple and they suggested rebuilding the server which is not an option right now.  It is possible the 10.6.7 update did not complete fully although it now shows 10.6.7 under the apple info.  Also ARD is no longer working to get in to the server.  Is there anyway to kickstart the NAT or at least get ARD working?  For right  now we have confgured our peplink dualwan to do the routing after having to configure firewall etc on it

Thanks

Download the combo update with another machine and move it to the server with any means necessary (i.e. USB drive, external hard drive, local network share if accessible, etc...) and try to reinstall it. Here is the link:

Once I switched the routing around to another computer, I was able to configure ethernet 2 to get out on the internet (both connections were still green) so it has internet access, just the natting does not work.  I will download it again and see what happens.  Do you recommend turning off any services while before performing the update or let it be as it.  I probably will try it again over the weekend, things are working and don't want to have additional problems.  Even though everything is working fine other than the nat, I'm thinking of leaving it the way it is for a while.  The hardware routing actually is faster than letter osx server do the routing, the server normally has a lot of video traffic running through it.  Would you worry about the nat aspect or perhaps there may be other things that are not properly updated?

Will post what happens once I get it working (i will clone the drive first though to make sure I have a backup)

Thanks

The ARD is still not working, I did a reinstall of that and then ran kickstart and it still wont restart.  Perhaps I answered my own question regarding the patch installation

Let us know how the combo reinstall goes?  Remember to repair disk permissions before and after the update.  I would be shocked if this doesnt resolve those issues.  You shouldnt have to stop any services to install the update.

Did you reinstall the ARD application or the ARD client software?

You could wait until another update is released. There is no telling when exactly that will be... If it were my server, I would reinstall the update if possible to ensure that there were no errors. It's up to you, though, based on your organization's needs.

Do you trust doing the update remotely or being on site?

I would recommend being onsite for sure.

Definitely onsite if you're having issues getting the update installed...
