Gmail will not Sync on Android/HTC Incredible
I tried going to Settings/Accounts & Sync/Google and hit Sync Now. But this does not help. Of course Refresh in the GMail client does not work. I have Internet connectivity through the 3G. I can browse the web or anything else that requires Internet. The only thing that seems to work *sometimes* is powering off and then back on (with that noisy DROID sound I wish I could deactivate).

I thought you might be onto something as I went into GMail settings and IMAP was set at disabled. Weird as my sync has worked fine for months. I rebooted the Incredible and...no change.
So I tried to verify the connection settings. However there is no Menu/Account Settings in the GMail app. If I go to the inbox and press Menu it has Refresh/Compose/Accounts/G o to labels/Search and ...More/Settings/Help. So Settings is close...so try that. In there you find Signature, Confirm actions, Auto-advane, Message text size, Batch Operations, Clear search history, Labels, email Notifications, Select ringtone, Vibrate, Notify once. That's it.
So...I went into Settings/Applications/Mana ge Applications/Running/Gmail .. and then I chose "Clear data". This wiped everything out of both of my gmail accounts. Some time later the mails repopulated. But...no syncing going forward. And forcing a sync does not work either. Force stop does not help.

Oh you are talking about the Google email app. I thought you would have been working with the basic e-mail program for your device.
From what you posted, Accounts may have the settinsg for your gmail account there. IMAP has different addresses than POP3.
I don't use the Google app with my device so I have no advice for settings in that...sorry. I just use Outlook on my PC and my mail program on my device. No Google app. well actually I have the Google app but I never have a reason to open it really....shrugs.

For my corporate email I am using Touchdown and that is working/syncing just fine. Just GMail is failing unless I wipe the data and then I get a one-time sync.

Found the fix. I uninstalled the most recently added applications and rebooted. Not sure which was the gunk. But happy to be working again.

Well turns out it was only a temporary fix. It stopped syncing. So I deleted a few more apps that I didn't need. It started syncing again. Sync worked a couple of days and now it stopped again. :-( I still need help with this!

Well that's interesting. I enabled the HTC mail client for access to the GMail account where I had been using GMail app. The HTC mail client sync'd no problem. I loathe to wipe the Incredible because I use it for work with Touchdown email client for Exchange Sync. Mail for gmail seems to be workin ok. Perhaps I'll just leave it at that.
That's where I was going with the post I made above that said:
"Oh you are talking about the Google email app. I thought you would have been working with the basic e-mail program for your device."
I am glad that's working for you! I personally use an iPhone 4 with Exchange and gmail, both with the default app. I never use my Google app even though I have it.
