How can I install missing Windows Forms Application template in Visual Studio 2010?

The Windows Forms Application template is missing from my version of Visual Studio 2010. Iy is not an option when I create a New Project.

I found a resource which said to run VBExpress /installvstemplates but I don't have that file either so I ran VWDExpress /installvstemplates.

Nothing seemed to happen. Then it said to reinstall Visual Studio but it took forever for the first install.

Is there an easy way to install this missing template?

What you can try is the following:
To add missing templates you need to run following command on visual studio command prompt.
Close all instance of Visual Studio. Open visual studio command prompt and type,
devenv /installvstemplates
Press Enter. Let the process be complete and now open visual studio. You will get all missing templates under Visual Studio installed templates.

For reference the templates are stored in the VS directory.  You should start there to verify they exist.  The default templates are found at <VSDIR>\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates.  There is a subdirectory for the various languages and, within there, folders for the various template collections.

Are you actually running a full-blown VS2010, or have you just installed VWD?
You may have installed the Visual Web Developer which is used for working with ASP.NET hence it does not include the Windows Forms templates. Also, the template is called "Windows Application".

I am running Visual Web Developer Express. Is that the problem? Can I get all the templates?

Also, I didn't understand that part about opening the Visual Studio command prompt. How do I do that?
VWD does not support Winforms apps. Download the Visual Basic Express

No you can't. Visual Web Developer doesn't support developing Windows Applications, which is why it has "Web" in the name. You will need to download Visual Studio Express (or Visual C# Express it might be called) to develop windows apps.
