Problem CSG / Web ICA Clien & local printer mapping

As a subcontractor we have access to some application of our external employer via CSG / Web ICA Client: Citr!x Client Engine Version 11.0.0.5357

So I have no access at all to the Citr!x (belive Xen) server and do not know what version it is running!

We have 3 local printer here in our offices that we need to print to from the Citr!x session and we provided local IP addresses, printer name, model and current driver version in use to them.

They tell us now that we have to select the printer we want to print on the default printer in our local Os before logging into the Citr!x and if we want to change it in between, we have to log out of the Citr!x, select a different printer as default and re-log back into Citr!x and so on.

Having worked my self for Citr!x Dublin a few years ago i do not remember it being that awkward (back in the MetaFrame times!).

Does anybody have some advice / tipps to make our life easier - even it if invloes telleing them how to set it up properly. Ther must be a different way. Different forms are printed to differnent printers here and it is very time consuming to always have to log off and log back in!

Also often enough it happens that the people logging onto the Citr!x do not get any of the local printers mapped - just the "Microsoft Document Writer" is then shown. Could that be just an ICA Client problem which i can maybe fix my self?

Thanks so much in advance
Regards from Dublin

Sounds like they have a Citrix Policy set to only map the client's default printer.  If that is the case, you are SOL unless they change their policy.

So there is a way - I knew there had to be ;) They actually were trying to tell me that there would be no way :) Thanks for your reply, CarlWebster!

What are the advantages and disadvantages of either configuration?  Would there be any risks / security issue or any other problems occurring for them if they adjust/change this policy?

Would it make any difference too them as in system load, sessions handling, traffic bandwidth or anything similar!

Is there some sort of documentation / step by step document showing exactly how and where to change that policy?

Tnx a mill

Citrix Policy for Client Printers
"What are the advantages and disadvantages of either configuration?" advantage - simplicity - one printer.  Disadvantage - pissed off users.  Or, if a user has a lot of printers, it could cause a start-up delay .

"Would there be any risks / security issue or any other problems occurring for them if they adjust/change this policy?"  None that I can think of.

"Would it make any difference too them as in system load, sessions handling, traffic bandwidth or anything similar!"  Not really.

Tnx a mill again for your detailed reply, CarlWebster!

Any idea on the 2nd part of the question - why sometimes no local client printer would map at all and the only printer then available is the "Microsoft Document Writer"

Thanks so much again

They reject to adjust / modify the printer policy - don't really undrstand the reason I was given by them - just does not make sence to me but can't change it!

Thanks again for supplying me with the good and detailed information, CarlWebster. Top Marks ;)

Off to ask the next question about Information store defragmentation ;)
