Best way to accept credit cards in Virtue Mart

I have an online store that is running Joomla/Virtuemart.

Currently we are using a service called virtual merchant to process credit cards, but we've been having some trouble with it. Does anyone have some advice on a better method of accepting credit card payments?

try to do it with bank modules

its safer for you and for the customer
What sort of trouble are you having?

I have used several over the years with varying degrees of success.

LinkPoint - this is FirstData and they sub-contract with many larger banks. You have to install a custom payment module, but it works. (I can give you all that info if you decide to use them.)

Intuit - this is quickbooks merchant service. It works fine, but requires custom modules as well.

Authorize.Net - works out of the box on VM, but is pricy.

2CO (2Checkout) - works, but takes you out of the site and has a higher fee,

Thanks. Think I'll try authorize.net. Then go from there.
