Learning Resources for Video over the WWW

I want to develop a web site that will allow uploading and modification of video files.  I welcome suggestions for learning resources - web sites, books, etc., that I can use to get up to speed on video.  Another way to put this question, "How does YouTube or Vimeo work?"

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello Ray,

to develop video website you might need to have media server.

Following is site for red5 media server.

Hi Ray,
Is it the video manipulation or the streaming your focused on right now?
Anyway for the manipulation side this sounds like a job for a python based lib, some ideas over here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/220866/best-video-manipulation-library-for-python

Hi Ray, did you find much on this in the end?
Ray PaseurAuthor Commented:
Hi, stilliard.  From EE, this is the sum of it.  I am looking at books on Amazon, etc., and contacting local videographers for the opportunity to assist.  I don't expect a shallow learning curve and I am up for the sprint that takes me from minimal knowledge to proficiency.  Where are you located?  I am in Washington, DC.
Sounds very interesting though, good luck with the project.
I'm over in the UK, long way from Washington.
