old sql backups aren't getting deleted

Hi All,
I have a SQL instance on which I scheduled daily full and hourly tran backups on my database using Maintenance plan.
For a while every thing went fine, but suddenly it stopped deleting old backups and my disk got fulled.
I didn't see any error in the log file related to this and I can see few errors on backup failed.
but not much information I found on why isn't it deleting the old files.

What might be the reason?
Can someone help me with that?

I can create new MP and test, but want to know and resolve that way.

Thanks in Advance

Can you provide more details about your SQL instance?  Version, edition, and service pack level?

SQL needs to successfully backup the databases before the transaction logs are removed. If you run a backup manually that is successful it should truncate the logs. There must be something in the job that is failing. Without more detail it might be difficult to find out why.

Have you checked through the MP to see if the option to retain backups is still set properly?

Please check whether backup files are not in use by other scheduled processes, like anti-virus or NT Backup.
Did you place t-log and full backups in the same maintenance plan? If so, do you have any databases in simple recovery model?
