asked on

How do I publish something on my desktop to a web page?

I asked this question twice before and couldn't get a solution, so I'll try wording it different this time.

I want to be able to publish to a web page in real time (live) a portion of my desk top that I select, which in turn would let anyone that goes to my web page see what I selected (captured) on my desk top.

It looks like on one you said Camtasia?

And you said you could not figure it out.

So, a few questions:
In regards to Camtasia - is that what you could not figure out?
What FTP utility are you using (e.g. FileZilla)?
Are you using Dreamweaver / Expression Web / or another web design program?
Do you have your own URL and have that set up at a hosting company or are you using a free site (if so, which one)?

Thank you for your reply,

I have Camtasia Studio 5 and I could capture the area I want to publish using Camtasia Recorder Live Output Mode, but can’t figure out how to get it on my web page.

I’m using Coffee Cup Direct FTP and Coffee Cup Visual Site Designer.

I have my own domain with a hosting company (Host Monster).

Phil
Usually, the Camtasia will complete everything for you - the HTML code, etc.

Check out Camtasia Studio to see if that helps.
I think you are right that is will complete everything for you - the HTML code, etc, but can't figure how to do it in real time. The example you provided is for a saved capture, I want to use the Live Output Mode.

Phil
As I said in another post “I am open to any suggestion including purchasing other software that is reasonably price and easy to use.”

Phil
I guess the real-time part I am a bit confused about. I saw your other question about uploading it in real time.  So I thought that was what you wanted to do (at some intervals).  But it seems like you want a way to do both at the same time?

Are you wanting to do a video of your screen or just a screen shot and the upload it (without you being at your computer)?
I know I’m having a hard time trying to explain what I am trying to do; I want to have a constant stream live what’s on my desk top to a web page.

Phil
When you open Camtasia Recorder, go to Tools - Options.  Under the Video tab,  choose Manual under Video Configuration.  Under the Screen Capture, check Live Output Capture.  I have not used this option before, but there is a help on there that might help you.  If not - let me know and I will try to do something similar as I did above.  Go to http://www.techsmith.com/ and in the search box, type in Live Output.  Great information there.

Other options (I found these but I have not used them or anything - I like Camtasia and I would stick to that if you can), check out http://www.manycam.com/ - and then you can stream it via ustream.  There is also http://www.pcwinsoft.com/1avstreamer/landing.asp and http://www.harmlesslion.com/cgi-bin/showprog.cgi?search=SCWebcam
Just curious - how are things going with this now?

I am working on a Camtasia screencast soon as well.
Thanks for asking,

I’m think I’m getting a little overwhelmed trying to get this to work. Thanks for the previous post with other options. I looked at them, tried some but just can’t figure out how to do what I want. I believe there is a way to do what I want, if it’s not possible I just want someone to tell me it can’t be done.

Phil
Well it can be done, it just takes time to learn the programs.

I also found one idea using Moyea.  The biggest thing here is learning the program.

You might search for things like publish streaming desktop live - one of the problems of course would be bandwidth.

Let's start another way - why are you doing this?
The first time I asked this question (https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/26730118/How-do-I-stream-something-on-my-desk-top-to-a-web-page.html) I didn’t elaborated a lot as to what or why I wanted to do this.
I have a Q-See DVR Model # QSD2316L security system with surveillance cameras (16) attached which only allows web access via username and password to it. I can assign unique usernames and passwords to individuals; however the software doesn’t allow me to designate which cameras they can view it allows them to view all the cameras. I have talked with the manufacture and they verified that this is the case. What I want to be able to do is capture a individual camera on my web browser and stream it live (real time) to my web page which will allow anyone to view it. Here is an example of a picture I captured on my browser and upload to a web page http://www.americancamcast.com/critterslive/ hope this makes sense.

Phil
Unfortunately that link cannot be viewed since it is deleted.

I don't know what product you have bought, but some third party applications might be better for you  - I had found one to see an IP camera on my phone

Or depending on your state, you might be able to return it and get one that meets your needs.  About 8 years ago, a company I consulted with had about 200 cameras with the ability to have specific users, etc.  I would have imagined that this was the normal now.

I am guessing that your desktop is showing a few cameras to some people?  Are you controlling that somehow?
I don't think the above response was meant for me.

Phil
The link that you provided (for the other EE question) cannot be viewed (it has been deleted).

The product that you bought - does it have a money back guarantee?  I consulted with a company years ago, that had something very similar.

In regards to the other link (americancamcast) - I am guessing that is one of 16 cameras?  How many users are you wanting to set up?

When you say you want users to see a live stream of your desktop, I am guessing this computer will only be used for the cameras?
That link works for me, but that really doesn’t matter one way or the other.

I have had the Security DVR for a couple of years and it works great except for this one thing I’m trying to do.

Yes the americancamcast link is where I want to send the stream. The image on americancamcast now I captured from one of the camera images on my desk top using Snagit and via FTP uploaded it.

The number of users really don’t matter, if I want the web page to be private I will password protect it later.

Correct the computer is dedicated to the security cameras.
Snagit by Techsmith which I download and am trying now has a timed capture option with ftp upload. This would suffice for now if I figure out how it get it to upload every time a timed capture occurs. It is capturing the image I want on my desk top every few seconds but won’t upload it via ftp after every new capture.
