Reverse DNS question

We are shortly going to start a newsletter campaign and want to limit any possible losses to spam filters as much as possible (this is not spamming, it is simply emailing out to our members who have all opted in). We have a Virtual Private Server. There are two parts to my question -

1) How does one go about configuring Reverse DNS correctly? I have a subdomain set up e.g. pointing to our IP address, but everytime I use a Reverse DNS check tool, it comes up with the default domain name that came with our package (which is also pointing to the same IP address and there seems no way to change that). Do I need another IP address?

2) What else should I be thinking about to avoid spam filters?

Thanks in advance
