Disk space

we have a windows sbs 2003 server with a 60 c: partition that is showing nearly full. approximately 58.8 Gb used. I have looked at the drive with TreeView and it only shows 33 Gb worth of files but it also ONLY shows 1.2 Gb as free. I cannot find what is occupying so much space?

Try using WinDirStat http://windirstat.info  to expose the usage on the drive in question

Check Shadow copy, I don't think that shows up with Treeview.
It may be set to unlimited and 300MB or so is probably sufficient.  Or disabled if there are no shares on the drive.

Sorry should have explained how to see Shadow copy.  Right click on the drive, select properties and there should be a Shadow copy Tab.

run "chkdsk" command when error logs also cover space

it looks like it may be vsc. however, i am seeing something strange.

\\?\Volume{fdbd291e-0c46-11df-aecc-a4badb09a73d}\

It states that this path has used 30+Gb but i don't know where to find the data so i can remove it. it is already disabled.

What does the Shadow Copy tab show for that drive?  I see it was recommended before but I do not see the results, so please advise.  Again right click, properties and then click on the Shadow Copy tab.  It will be ON or OFF and also will show how much space is being used by it.

The other thing to look for is how much space is allocated for the Recycle Bin.  I agree it would be odd to be that high but its worth checking.  Right click on the bin and look at the properties.  Then click on the drive  letter in questions and you will see how much space is reserved.

it is on and set to use a limit of 6Gb. it is currently using about 3Gb.

There isn't a size to allocate to recycle bin (per se). it mearly allows you to set a limit which currently is the drive size. amending this has no bearing on space used on the drive.

thanks. something is using about 25+Gb on the drive that i cannot see with TreeView, etc.
