Search documents on SBS2003 server

We are looking for a way of indexing word documents on our sbs2003 server in order to be able to do searches from the pc's. We have approximately 100 Gb of word files (200,000 files), and running Windows XP-Word 2003 / Windows 7-Word 2010 on the workstations. Doing searches using XP or Windows7 basic search feature takes a very long time.

Did a bit of research, and Search Server Express (MSSX) on sbs2003 seems to be an issue. Can we use the Windows Server 2003 Indexing Service and run searches on these indexes from Windows XP/7 Search utility ?

What would be your suggestions ?

Thanks

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have you looked at Google Desktop Search or Microsoft Search as a client-side solution? You need the Enterprise version from Google, still free though - http://desktop.google.com/enterprise/. Microsoft's solution is at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/desktopsearch/default.mspx, and requires this add-in http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=f7e981d9-5a3b-4872-a07e-220761e27283 to include network drives in the search.

Both of these are freebies, and don't put anything on the SBS Server, which is always the safe choice. ;)
