Using MDT to deploy Windows 7 with custom desktops

I want to use MDT to deploy Windows 7 x64 images.  I have a Windows 2008 x64 server with the Windows Deployment Services Role added.  I have a PC with Windows 7 x 64 ready to go.  What do I do now?

Also, can I customise the desktop/settings for users to the machine?  When we deployed XP we tailored the default user.  How can this be achieved with MDT & Windows 7?  Basically would like a standard desktop.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Personally I would go for an SCCM install instead of Just MDT. That gives you lots more and package deployment all rolled into one with all of the added functionality of the SCCM reporting.

Hi,

You may very well use MDT for this purpose. You may just download an excellent CD describing all steps from here: http://www.truesec.com/deploymentcd (Thanks to Johan. You may have to register once to download it). Its an excxellent video guide and is going to help you a lot.
