Team Foundation Server 2010 stops working after installation of SQL 2005.

We have a 2008 64-bit server running SQL 2008 and Team Foundation Server 2010 working.  After we install SQL 2005 64-bit Developer Edition on the same server, the TFS stops working.  Is there an easy way to back out of this without restoring the whole server from backup?  I know its possible to run both version of SQL on the same server, but in this case what is the ideal way to deal with this.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

When you say "stops working" do you mean that TFS 2010 doesn't respond to client requests? That there's an actual error message? Can you provide some more details?

That said, as long as the instance TFS 2010 is using is SQL 2008 or later, you should be fine to also install a SQL 2005 instance on the same server. Does that 2005 instance you added have all the available service packs applied, and is it connectable/working properly?

We end up restoring an previous backup copy of the server to restore access.  I am assuming that I should have install SQL 2005 first then TFS for compatibility sake, but where we are now any tips or precaution I should be aware of before attempting to install SQL 2005 on top of a TFS and SQL 2008 existing installation?
