Outlook 2007 AutoArchive "delete expired items" setting

In Outlook 2007's AutoArchive settings, there is an option to "Delete expired items".  According to MS documentation, an "expired item" is any e-mail item over 6 months old.  Also, according to the documentation, this feature is not enabled by default.

I found for one of my users that (1) this feature is enabled, and (2) many e-mails are missing from the Outlook mail folders he personally created in his mailbox.  In the AutoArchive properties of these folders, "Do not archive items in this folder" is set as the option.

Is the "Delete expired options" setting be the reason e-mails are disappearing?  Does it actually override the "Do not archive items in this folder" setting?

AutoArchive was running every 14 days on his computer; I have temporarily disabled it.

I'm not quite sure but I guess users get asked whether to auto archive or not if not configured (correctly). To get rid of auto archiving you should set in your gpo User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Microsoft Office Outlook 2007\Tools | Options\Other\AutoArchive - Set Disable File|Archive to Enable. This should turn off Archiving at all.

Update:  I believe these issues began after he received his new computer, which was running Windows 7.

Luckily, I still had his Windows XP computer lying around.  I logged into the old computer as him but did not have the computer connected to the network.  Outlook then loaded the old offline cached (OST) file, and from there I exported everything to a PST file.  I then transferred the PST file to his new computer and imported the contents to his current mailbox.

So the issue remains unresolved.  I still don't know why those e-mails would disappear.  I'm betting that it was not the "delete expired options".  Rather it was Auto Archive itself, doing something it was explicitly told not to do.

This user accesses his Outlook mailbox from home on a different computer using Outlook's RDP over HTTP function.  Could the HOME computer be archiving the e-mails?  Aren't Auto Archive settings for folders kept on the server level?  In other words, another install of Outlook on another computer wouldn't treat the folders differently in terms of their Auto Archive settings, would it?
