Clear Windows Installer Folder for Windows 2003

I am trying to free up some space on my C drive for Windows 2003. I notice 1.4GB is taking by a c:\windows\installer folder. What is this folder? Is it safe to move those files to some other location?

It is safe to remove SOME of the files and some not really...To do it safely you need to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Tool from Microsoft which comes with a command line utility called msizap.exe. After installing the tool, run:

C:\Program Files\Windows Installer Clean Up\msizap G!

And it will automatically remove any .msp files that are not registered on your system. This process cleared over 6GB from a client's server system partition.

Since it is probably not the safest thing to remove files from this folder, I will have use other methods to free up space. I plan to move the pagefille.sys file to another drive.
