Basic steps of capacity Planning for websphere

can anyone guide me how to start capacity planing for any given application deployed on
websphere. I know this is a subject where we need to consider many factors but just wanted
to know how to start with and how different components such as EJB, threads, etc. come into
the picture. and do we really need any tool to do the same if so, can we have the same on net?

thx in advance.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Depends to some extent on your platform.  What WAS version are you running, and on what platform?  Also, do you also need to do database capacity analysis in conjunction with WAS?
