reporting on server/desktops

Hi all,

TIA.

does anyone know of a free software package to report on:

1. hardware - HHD size, RAM installed, Processor etc
2. state of windows - updates installed, is it up to date
3. installed applications

if this can report back to a central point ie a server that woudl be fantastic.

thanks
gareth

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

nagios - opensource, and quite extensible architecture.

For hardware, check out CPU-Z from www.cpuid.com

I use PSInfo from what was Sysinternals (now part of Microsoft).  Take a look here ==> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897550.aspx

Hope this helps

I also recommend Nagios as a fantastic monitoring tool. It's got several plugins as well as the ability to create your own custom ones. I have used nagios to monitor, different systems, incl. Windows Desktop/Server environments, Linksys switch and home router, cisco switches as well as an ip-camera.

I also heard of some other product called Munin (http://munin-monitoring.org). From the people who use this product, they report that setup is so easy and straight forward v/s the Nagios tool community Ed. which I agree has a learning curve.
