Oracle Locale

I have installed Oracle 11G on my server. This server is located in Germany so it seems that by default the locale is set to German. I feel this, becuase the products accessing this database are showing attribute names in German.

Is there a way to check the locale in database and change it to English?

thank you

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. You can see the current values in NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS.

Are you wanting to change the characterset of the database or just the returned language for things like error messages?

The globalization guide talks about all this

Please refer to the attached screenshot. Does it mean that locale is set to English and not German?

Please define what you mean by 'attribute names'.

We have Documentum Content Server installed which uses Oracle as underlying database. I am using Documentum Administrator (DA) to connect to Documentum Content Server. Using DA, when I open an objects properties (attributes) they are displayed in German.

huh? install english version of "Documentum Content Server" :) nothing to do with db I guess...
slightwv (䄆 Netminder) Commented:
Never used Documentum but it does appear to be specific to that and not Oracle.

A little Googling and I came across this:

Also referred to as I10n, this is the process of adapting a product to a particular language. For example, Documentum Language Packs add French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean client user interfaces and documentation to core English client products.
