2008R2 Virtual Machine refuses to install virtual NIC

Been working on getting trunking and multiple VLANs setup on vSwitches, check the link below if you want to see that in detail:  http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/VMWare/Q_26939108.html.

But now I have a 2008R2 VM that refuses to add vNICs anymore and an XP VM too.  You add one in the configuration and it refuses to install it, just says it can't find the drivers if you try to install it with device manager and won't install automatically like it used to.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

are the vm tools up to date ?

Yep.  The VMware Tools all read as "OK" on the Summary page of each VM.

Had to reinstall VMware Tools, did that and now they are working.
