p2v VMM computer name wont change/ cant rdc

So this is a long story so ill start with the problem.

Im trying to do a rdc to a virtual machine with the same machine i used to do the p2v. also i am having trouble changing the name of the  virtual computer. The error i get when i try rdc "your computer could not connect to another console session on the remote computer because you already have a console session in progress."

Now the story.

I took a windows xp machine named wct005 and did a p2v. everthing went great seemed to transfer fine. once it become virtual i had to give it a new xp license. I let the p2v use the same name (wct005 for vitual) as i planned to change the name once it was done. It lets me change the computer name(on virtual) but for some reason when i do a rdc from any computer the old name wct005 still goes to that computer dispite giving it a new name. I even droped the virtual machine and phyical from domain changed both their names and readded to domain yet when i do a rdc to wct005 which i have deleted from our domain in AD it still remotes to the vmm. WHY??? and why cant i use the phyiscal computer i ghosted to rdc to virtual?

Hope you can make sense of this information and help me out. PLease ask questions i can fill you in with more information

Thanks,

Jake

Check IP addresses, MAC Addresses, DNS, WINs

ipconfig /flushdns

What should I check bout IP MAC DNS and WINs. They all look ok. I can’t compare until Monday if that’s what you meant by check.
the wct005 name could still be in your DNS servers, WIN servers?

if you use ping wct005, does it resolve to an IP address of the VM?
It does ping that ip. I feel dumb asking this but how would i figure out which server has my dns and or win.... Im guessing dc right?
OK so found my dns and i see wct005 should i just delete the record or do i modify it?

is their a sync command so i can modify all of them from my dc?
yes, if you select Update Datafiles, DNS should replicate.
thanks... looks like i have a new topic to read up on this weekend
Yes, things get stuck in DNS, WINs and we forget why things aren't working correctly!

glad you got it working.
