I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

NOTE: This will only work for a root web site

1) Add the DNS entry to your DNS server
2) Add the DNS name and port to the 'Host Header' binding for the web application
3) Use 'Alternate Access Mapping' in SharePoint Central Admin for the web application to add a 'Default' entry with the DNS name

You can do a similar technique for a non-default site collection but it's more complex.

I'm guessing you are NOT running on port 80 or 443 right now, otherwise you wouldn't be asking this question as you don't have to designate 80 or 443 in the URL.

So, the answer is NO, you can't hide a non standard port from the URL.
