Implementing the 960 grid with Drupal starter themes.

Hello,,
Is it relatively easy to implement the 960 grid framework in a Zen subtheme? Are there pitfalls that I should be aware of? This is my first theme, my skill set is html and css. I've heard that Zen is a great way to begin theming (keeping Zen as the base theme and then copying the STARTER_KIT to use as the subtheme.

Perhaps there is a better theme for me to begin with. These are my goals: I like the idea of using a 960 grid framework to standardize code between developers, I want the theme to include accessiblility features if possible and most importantly , be as easy to understand as possible for designers working on css. I looked at Genesis and thought I might get into trouble because it has its own specific layout styles. Using the 960 drupal theme seemed to basic and it doesn't use an html.page.tpl file so that kind of made me wonder about its upgrade to 7.

Some feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sharon

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I would start with a sub-theme that more fits your use case like http://drupal.org/project/ninesixty
