You mean you have downloaded the software "TurboTax 2002 " in the year 2002 and you are trying to install it now?
Please give more specific errors you get.

jstaron7--How do you plan to use TurboTax 2000?  I doubt it will do your 2010 taxes.  Or are you planning to do your 2002 taxes now?  If you are hoping for a refund based on new info, I doubt you will get one.  (IRS only accepts amended returns four years in the past.  http://taxes.about.com/od/backtaxes/qt/statute_limits.htm  ).  If you will owe money, the penalty could be substantial.

Intuit software prior to versions in 2009 do not work in Windows 7. So in additon to the above comments about the usability of a 2002 tax product in 2010, it won't install in Windows 7. ... Thinkpads_User

You could download one of the free XP virtual images from Microsoft to temporarily install and run the software. The virtual image will expire on May 18, but you could use it until then, and install TurboTax 2002 on there to open your files.

Download and install the free Microsoft Virtual PC. If you have a 64-bit computer, choose the option that ends in x64-RefreshPkg.msu. Otherwise, choose the file that ends in x86-RefreshPkg.msu:

Download one of the free XP images - the file XPSP3-IE6.exe would likely be the most compatible:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=21EABB90-958F-4B64-B5F1-73D0A413C8EF&displaylang=en

Extract and open the VM image inside of VirtualPC to run the virtual machine with XP on it. Note that the Admin password is Password1

I highly recommend you then create a PDF of your tax information so you don't have to restort to this process in the future. You can install the free CutePDF, and then print to the virual CutePDF printer to create a PDF file:

jstaron7--Simpler would be to try to run it in Compatibility Mode (right click|Properties|Compatibility tab), but even if it opens, all the earlier comments still apply.

I have been using Intuit products for a long time and older versions did not work in compatabilty mode for me. So using a virtual machine is about the only way I know. ... Thinkpads_User

If you are running Windows 7 Professional, you could install XP mode.  It is a bit of configuring but I have used it for a client running Quickbooks 2003 on Windows 7.
You will need to make sure that your computer is capable of runing the virtual software.  It is set up by first installing an XP virutial machine.  The software is then installed in the virtual machine and the shortcut is placed in the start menu.  You can then access this shortcut and place it on your desktop.  Once done, you don't have to open the virtual machine.  It just does it in the background.
