how to monitor internet connection status

Hi Expert,

Could you advise is there any tool available to monitor internet connection status?
I need to monitor for a place where connection is not stable. If connection is down, we would like to know the cause whether it is due to ISP or power failure or router.
Could you advise?
thanks

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi We use a simple tool called connection monitor. WE poll the external DNS of our service provider and also Google, that tells where the problem originated from. This is very basic but have a look and let me know.

it is free ware and here is a download link if you would like to try it out.
