How issue our own cert after buying one

Is there way that we  could buy a single cert for our  cert authority and then issue our own for webmail , ssll vpn and other uses. I know they sell certificates that could be used for multiple domain names (i.e webmail.domainanme.com/ vpn.domainname.com), but I was wondering if I could by one and then issue my own as much as I want. We have Widnows 2003 servers.

You can't do this and have it "trusted". You're talking about a self-signed certificate which you can do, but all the browseres will issue warnings.  If you just want the encryption, it will work.

See http://webdesign.about.com/od/ssl/a/signed_v_selfsi.htm for a decent description.
