Ok Quick questions- any reason to purchase Diskkeeper instead of using the built in defrag that comes with server 2008?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Disk Keeper can run scheduled defrags.  So you could have it run nightly to keep things more in order.  Might be valuable on file server.  I also think in may do a more efficient job.  Guess that's my two cents on it ;-)

Diskeeper gives you a little more options and customization but I still stick with built-in defrag.

The defrag in Windows 2008 Server allows for scheduled defrag as well

Disk keeper will allow for offline defrag of the server too, so those files that cannot be defragmented due to being in use will be defragged

I used to use diskeeper on 2003 servers, but the improvements with 2008 and the fact that diskeeper's performance was at times questionable I made the switch to the internal defragmentation tool. There is less overhead and it can be scheduled. Adding that we don't have to pay for it and its performance is very good it makes for a sound decision.

I would suggest using the internal defreg and evaluating your own satisfaction with it to make sure that if you are going to spend money that your decision is backed up with facts and experience of the built-in tools.
