Selecting only 50 characters from a Text datatype- SQL SERVER 2005

I need to select only 50 characters from a text field which is defined as Text datatype.. Please help in extracting..

there are left and right functions that you can use if you cut from the left or from the right of string

You need to convert the Text datatype to varchar first and then aperform LEFT or SUBSTRING functions.

SUBSTRING(), unlike LEFT() and RIGHT(), supports the deprecated text data type.
