If you are just monitoring one web site I would recommend the smarterstats. It is free for one web site. It uses your log files to analyze traffic and also produces very nice graphs to display the data etc. It will be able to display new vs returning visitors based on IP addreses. It also allows you to see geographic areas of visitors, how they were referred to the site, which browser they used and much more.<br />

Google Analytics is good as well however you must add code to the web site.<br />
